Diagnostic Medical Sonography (A.A.S.)

A.A.S. Degree: 88 Credit Hours

Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a multi-specialty profession offering a variety of career opportunities in settings including trauma, surgery, interventional radiography, inpatient, outpatient, and physician services.   

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is a selective admission program.  A separate application process is required for acceptance into this program.  Upon acceptance, the students may take the “program specific courses.”  Graduates receive an Associate in Applied Science degree designed to prepare them for the national certification exams of Sonography Principles and Instrumentation, Abdomen, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Vascular Technology.  These certification examinations are administered through The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

A grade of “C” or higher is required for all SON prefix courses.

General Education Requirements - 24 Credit Hours


Anatomy & Physiology - 8 credit hours


Mathematical Sciences - 3 credit hours


Any math course listed below, or any higher-level math course, will meet this requirement.

Oral Communication - 3 credit hours


Any COM course numbered 100 or higher will meet this requirement.

Natural Science - 4 credit hours


Psychology - 3 credit hours


Any higher level PSY course may be used to meet this requirement.
