ARO-247 Advanced Automation Controls Credits: 4 Lec 2 Lab 2 Practicum 0 Tier Rate: Tier II This lecture/lab course introduces the basic hardware and programming language of common Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) used in industrial process control systems. Using the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix family of Programmable Controllers and Studio 5000 programming software the student will advance their knowledge of the proper syntax of PLC code, tag addressing, advanced instructions, code reusability, and the special functions of the program cycle. Programs will be written around discreet and analog control elements. PLC program development will become increasingly more difficult as lab instructions will be both verbally transmitted and/or text-based. Students will learn how to use advanced programming instructions to perform typical industrial processes. Students will also gain knowledge in basic motion control by the configuration and control of servomotors and variable frequency drives.
