This course will focus on improving communication and understanding between respiratory therapists and patients, while focusing on healthcare literacy. Improving communication and education of patients will, in turn; increase compliance with treatment and medication regimen’s, improve understanding of the pathophysiology of their disease and/or condition, improve understanding of environmental factors or poor choices that lead to disease exacerbation, and reduce the likelihood that a patient will need to be admitted to the hospital due to their respiratory disease or condition. Prerequisite(s): Grade of “C” or better in BSRT 458.
